Rye Fish Market opened in 2022 in the heart of Rye’s historic fishing community, built around a passion for fresh, locally landed fish and seafood.

Inspired by the vibrant fish markets of France and Spain, we created a space where customers can experience the atmosphere of a traditional coastal fish market right here in Rye. Each day, fresh fish is landed just behind the shop by local boats working from Rye Harbour and along the Sussex and Kent coastline. We also have a fish collection service operating from many local ports across Sussex and Kent.

Our counter changes daily depending on the catch, with a wide selection of fresh fish, shellfish and seafood available throughout the week. We also have our own lobster and crab tanks and prepare local lobsters, crabs and whelks in-house. Our team is always happy to fillet and prepare your fish, as well as offer cooking advice and preparation tips.

In June 2023, we opened our fully licensed Seafood Bar, serving fresh local seafood alongside a carefully selected range of wines, beers and ciders from local producers. Our menu focuses on simple, high-quality ingredients, including fresh oysters, crab and lobster, along side the local catch, all celebrating the best of the Sussex coast.

We are proud to work closely with local suppliers and artisan producers, including The Oak Bakery, whose breads are made especially for us and local vineyards Gusbourne, Charles Palmer and Mountfield.

Rye Fish Market is  a family-run business with more than 35 years of experience in the fishing industry. Based on the banks of the Rye Estuary, our site operates as a fish landing depot, wholesale and retail fish market, supplying fresh seafood across Kent and Sussex.

Rye remains one of the few working fishing harbours left in the UK. Many of our fish come directly from local day boats, which leave harbour on one tide and return on the next, meaning the fish is landed fresh daily using traditional, sustainable fishing methods.

Whether you are visiting the fish market or joining us at the seafood bar, our focus remains the same — exceptional local seafood, fresh from the boats to Rye.

The Fish Market is open to the public from 8am–5pm, Tuesday to Saturday,

10am–4pm on Sundays.

Our counter is stocked daily with a wide selection of fresh local fish and seafood, alongside a ready-to-eat deli selection featuring freshly prepared seafood favourites.

Much of our fish comes directly from our fleet of local day boats working from Rye and along the Sussex and Kent coastline. Because Rye is tidal, many of the fishermen head out to sea on one tide and return on the next, spending only a short time at sea. This traditional approach helps ensure our fish is responsibly caught, exceptionally fresh and landed daily.

We also have our own lobster and crab tanks in the shop and prepare local lobsters, crabs and whelks in-house.

Visit the shop to see what has come off the boats today. Our team is always happy to fillet and prepare your fish, offer cooking advice and preparation tips, and vacuum pack fish for your freezer.

Our selection changes daily depending on the catch, season and availability.

Join us for oysters, seafood, small plates, wine, beer and seasonal specials in a relaxed coastal setting.

Our menu changes with the freshest produce available each week.
